It’s the month of love, and we at Tobin Lofts have a host of love-themed events ready to give you all the warm, fuzzy feelings we can. Let’s all start this month by taking some time to show the people close to us how much we cherish them. There’s also no better month to renew your lease with the home you’ve come to know and love!

We’ll have great deals and prizes going on all month at our events and for those lovely residents that help us show off why they love our community so much.

College Students Ought to Know: Asking for Help Doesn’t Mean You Have a Problem

It’s easy to slip up or forget about your studies with all this love in the air. Always make sure to contact your advisors for the appropriate assistance in planning out your course curriculum, or even for advice on how to manage the courses you already have. Advisors are wonderful people always aiming to guide us on the path to success.

There are way more resources for you to use on campus than just your advisor, though. Every college campus has its own tutoring labs for writing, math, and science-related disciplines. Remember, scheduling a tutoring session doesn’t mean you are terrible at something. It just means you are wise enough to use what resources are available to help your improvement and development as a student! Besides, it always helps to have a second opinion.

Quote of the Month:

“The best thing to hold on to in life is each other.”

— Audrey Hepburn

Focus on Career Success

Whether you are a sophomore looking at internships or a senior getting ready for that first job after graduation, the spring semester brings added pressure as you seek to set yourself apart and set yourself up for success.

Here are five tips to keep you moving forward on a career success track:

Tip #1: The key to getting hired is selling yourself better than the other candidates. What’s your pitch? Practice concise ways to share your value and what you are looking for.
Tip #2: Your resume’s only job is to get your foot in the door! Have it critiqued at the career center.
Tip #3: Google yourself: What does your online presence tell future employers? Are you focusing on your online brand? Your potential employer is! Work on shaping your presence online and off.
Tip #4: Come up with EVERY reason an employer might not hire you — and an answer for each objection. For example, “What I lack in relevant experience, I make up for with my drive and proven ability to learn new things quickly.”
Tip #5: Learn from the best! Find people doing what you want to do and doing it well — and ask them for guidance. It’ll be well worth your time and perhaps a few cups of coffee to do informational interviews with others on their success stories.

These tips are obviously just the tip of the iceberg. Watch out for career success experiences here at your community. Whether you want feedback on your pitch or need someone to critique your resume, let us know how we can help you and connect you with resources to assist in your success!

Hot Tips on Romantic Restaurants

If you’re looking for romantic ideas for yourself and your significant other, we recommend checking out the River Walk downtown. It’s especially lovely while we still have the winter weather keeping us cool, and many of the restaurants lining the River Walk tend to have couples specials at this time of year.

You could also check out the Japanese Tea Gardens near the San Antonio Zoo for a different experience from the usual fare. If you’re looking for some more specific advice, each of our Community Assistants are happy to offer recommendations for restaurants and fun activities to make this month one to remember!
